Filter Cray-Cray

Filter Cray-Cray

For many of us, our childhood photos are scarce or non-existence and because of this we take so many pictures of our kids and ourselves. Selfies are certainly appreciated and adored, but many of us, my hands are up, we have went overboard with the filters.

Filters take away our flaws and imperfections, but they also take away our true identity. I went through my camera roll and examined selfies that I took of myself and I was embarrassed. Who was this person? I didn’t even recognize me because it wasn’t me. Those aren’t my eyes or skin tone!

I’m glad that I was able to call myself out, but that’s just me. I think about the young girls that are watching their older sisters, mothers, grandmothers, and aunts adding the selfies. The message they are sending is cover it up, you can totally change your appearance, your eyes, nose, lips, and skin tone by adding filters. We have to do better. We have to accept our natural selves. We have to remember that we live in reality and not in a perfect filter. Tell me what you think in the comments!
